On Wednesday night at Eadon Clarke Oval, the Under 13s Rovers Utd team, led by coach Paul Mullooly, crowned a magnificent season winning the 13s Knockout Cup with a 2-1 victory over LaFiamma to compliment the League title. Paul has had his team firing on all cylinders from the start of the season. Early games came quite easy, but as the season progressed games became a lot tighter, due to his ‘skinny’ squad and injuries to key players. The season was not quite 100% with the loss of just one game, albeit a tight scrappy affair.
Rovers Utd was a superb team with everyone contributing, but mention must be made of some individuals. Conner Mullooly won the competition Fairest & Best and cracked in a whopping 39 goals. Isaac Gilbert won the team’s Player of the Year and was judged as Best Player afield in the final of the Knockout Cup. Ben Elhers was the ‘non-stop’ player in the final and rightly won Paul’s award for the Utd Player of the Match. Marley Mardon suffered a nasty hamstring injury, missing the last six games on the park, but came good for the team when he performed admirably in goals for the last two games.
This team was a great unit supported by the fact that seven of his players are the backbone of the Geraldton team chosen for the upcoming Country Championships in Perth. Special mention must be made of the enthusiasm, organisation, devotion, motivation and coaching skills that Paul has imparted to his team. Thank you Paul from all at GRSC.
